Activities in Guhagar

Maldoli is a small village near Chiplun by the banks of Vashishti river. Spotting a crocodile in the Vashishti river is the major attraction of the place. A boat trip to Maldoli can be organized from Dabhol and the boat ride would take about two hrs upstream from Dabhol. Once you reach Maldoli spotting a crocodile is almost definite. A wildlife spotting trip is what can really spice up your beach vacation especially if you are on a long holiday to Guhagar.

Guhagar will be a carnival if you are a sea food lover. You will find many places serving fresh seafood prepared in the rustic Bhandari cuisine. One can find sea food cuisines specific to the Bhandari culinary style in Guhagar. There are many pure-veg restaurants serving the famous Brahmani vegetarian food. Panhalekaji across Vashishti

Panhalekaji

Discovered in 1970 Panhalekaji is a complex of 28 - 29 caves filled with exquisite art value wrt architecture and quality of craftmanship. These budhist caves have a few inscriptions in Brahmi and Devanagari and also remnants of statues from 3 AD. Panhalekaji is about 35 Kms from Dapoli and the drive will take just over an hour from Dapoli but well worth it!

The Layout

All 29 caves are not placed next to each other; they are spread around the entire site. Some inscriptions in Brahmi and Devanagari languages are also there inside Panhalekaji caves. There are no informative boards or name plates regarding caves in the Panhalekaji caves area. There is a big boulder in a river nearby with carvings of four doors on it.

Highlights

Representations of Uma Matsyendranatha and Adinatha and are there inside cave number 29. This cave also hosts sculptures of Goraknatha and Maha-Tripurasundari. Different panels inside this cave show various figures. Small panels in this cave have 84 Siddhas. Buddhist stupa from the 3rd century AD is in cave number 5.

Water Sports in Guhagar

Water sports in Guhagar is available at the main Guhagar beach. Speed boats jet ski and kayaking etc is available here and more options like yachting is made available at times by Mandke developers who are binging up a major project in the beach town near Asgoli.

Guhagar local governance is very particular about promoting tourism in Guhagar and have tried to develop the beach by periodically cleaning it up and special attention has been given to water sports and safety of tourists visiting Guhagar.

They have built ramps on the beach to facilitate watersports on the beach and safely participate in water sports at Guhagar beach.
